It is said that Aun'Va is the oldest and the wisest of his caste. He has counselled the greatest leaders of the T'au for longer than any can recall, and his hand can be seen at work behind much of the T'au history. He is the most senior Ethereal upon T'au, sitting upon the councils that rule not just the sept but the entire empire. His word is heeded by every member of his caste, for his counsel has ever proven wise and true.
Aun'Va and his honour guard are intricate Citadel Finecast models. Sitting on his mysterious throne-like craft, and with a grim expression, Aun'Va clutches the Paradox of Duality, a ceremonial staff that possesses immense power. He wears robes, and is adorned with decorative details. He comes flanked by his honour guard, who wear long, flowing robes, sept symbols and gems. They come to battle each armed with an honour blade.

Tau Empire XV88 Broadside Battlesuit

Designed to offer long-range support, the XV88 Broadside Battlesuit has exceeded expectations, becoming a mainstay of the Hunter Cadres and tank-killers of legendary proportions. Powered by a particle accelerator, a Broadside's heavy rail rifle shot can penetrate the thickest plasteel bunkers.
With robust armouring, manoeuvrability and a stack of weapons within the box, the XV88 Broadside Battlesuit provides the T'au collector with a number of options. The kit brings a fresh twist to the line of T'au battlesuits äóñ they're noticeably denser models with a great presence in a collection of miniatures. Each one features a particle accelerator on the back. Tau Empire Cadre Fireblade

Fireblades are the most grizzled and seasoned Fire Warriors of their cadre, whose skill at the Fire Warrior's art leads them to eschew battlesuit technology. They are excellent field leaders and their long experience has taught them exactly where to place shots to maximise damage.
The Cadre Fireblade model brings an extra dynamism and level of detail to a T'au collection. The figure is incredibly elaborate, with unique fine-panelled combat armour bearing T'au symbols. With a triumphant expression, in one hand it holds aloft a large bonding knife while in the other it grips a pulse rifle with marker light. Standing on a sculpted base displaying ruined architecture, it wears a long flowing cloak and has long hair that is bound by several clasps in a pony tail.

Swift and deadly, T'au Commanders pilot battlesuits of intimidating size and power. Of course, simply piloting a huge battlesuit doesn't automatically make a troop into a Commander - more than anything, it's the strategic nous and ability to adapt to unpredictable situations that stands this pilot out from the others. Many, many years of tireless dedication are required to reach this prestigious rank; every T'au Commander has achieved their status the hard way. Their XV-85 Enforcer Armour Crisis Battlesuits are armed with immensely destructive weapon arrays - flamers, ion blasters and frag projectors are amongst the optional loadouts, with electronic countermeasure suites and huge data-processing capabilities enhancing their battle prowess.
The XV86 Coldstar Battlesuit variant is covered in fins which streamline it, allowing super-fast movement across the theatre of battle, annihilating enemies with sharp shocks from its burst cannon. The on-board holophoton countermeasures and telemetry suites feed the Coldstar and its Commander pilot a massive variety of information that would overwhelm the untrained mind - instead, in this case, it allows the Coldstar Battlesuit to soar over its foes with a grace that enemy targeting systems simply cannot hope to catch.

Tau Empire Commander Farsight

There is no figure in T'au history as divisive as Commander O'Shovah. The most famous warrior of Vior'la, Farsight's greatest victories were against the Orks on the oxide-desserts of Arkunahsa. It was his tactical brilliance that earned O'Shovah his famous title äóÖFarsight'.
This exceptionally detailed Commander Farsight model comes in an extremely dynamic pose. Wearing a Crisis battlesuit and armed with a plasma rifle, he stands with one leg raised, his circular shield generator lifted on his left arm, and with his Dawn Blade out to his right. There are flowing strips of material on his thigh and back from the Dawn Blade to add to the sense of rapid movement. Though he bears the symbol of the Fire caste on his armour, he bears his own insignia on his shield generator, crisp in the detail of Citadel Finecast.

Commander O'Shaserra, or Shadowsun, is a heroic leader of the T'au, someone who exemplifies all that is noble about the Greater Good. A well-known and respected warrior, she earned her command in the deserts and jungles of the K'resh Expansion against the Greenskin menace.
Commander Shadowsun heads into to battle in the experimental XV22 battlesuit, a sleek and dynamic piece of equipment. She's posed dynamically on top of a piece of ruined, gothic architecture armed with a fusion blaster on each arm. As well as being able construct three drones to accompany her into battle, you have the added choice of using either of two heads to go on the miniature - one helmeted and one without.

Tau Empire Krootox Rider

Many alien races are found to be working alongside their T'au overseers - one of these races is the Kroot, which originated on the world of Pech, a forested world located in the north-west of the T'au Empire. Kroot musculature is extremely powerful and composed of dense fibre spindles with a greater power to mass ratio than is found in humans. In battle the Kroot lash large, unwieldy Kroot guns to the powerful shoulders of the Krootox, using the beast as a mobile weapon platform.
The Citadel Finecast Krootox is an exceptionally detailed miniature, the components of which fit together perfectly. Tau Empire Longstrike

Master Gunship pilot Shas'la T'au Sha'ng, now better known as Longstrike, has quickly become the Fire caste's most heralded tank ace. Since his first training session, he exhibited an almost innate ability to handle a Hammerhead. Due to his unerring aim, Longstrike was chosen to trial the new XV02 pilot battlesuit.
Longstrike's unusual battlesuit is styled in the same manner as other T'au battlesuits, albeit in a more compact scale. He is covered head to foot in elegant armour panels. A control panel sits on his forearm and he is posed gesturing into the distance. Longstrike would make an excellent addition to a Hammerhead gunship – and he fits neatly inside the vehicle's hatch, making him a unique addition to your T'au Empire collection. Please note: the Hammerhead Gunship is for illustration purposes and must be bought separately (and you probably should, because it's an exceptionally nice T'au model).

Light reconnaissance units, Pathfinder Teams are the eyes and ears of their Commander in a way no drone can yet emulate. A Pathfinder's foremost role is not to engage the enemy, but instead to operate ahead of their comrades, close to their foe, to accurately scout the enemy.
There are 10 Pathfinders in this kit, and they can be built in a variety of ways äóñ there are different leg options, for kneeling, crouching or standing, as well as different head options. They sport lighter recon armour, which covers their torso, shoulders, knees and elbows, and they wear the similar long, elegant helmets to Fire Warriors. They can carry a selection of weapons including pulse carbines, rail rifle, and ion rifles. The kit includes an enormous Recon Drone, which can be mounted on a Devilfish tank (not included), and which comes armed with a burst cannon. The box set also features a Pulse Accelerator Drone, with a four-pronged device underneath the circular disc, and the Grav-inhibitor Drone that features an orb underneath.

The Piranha is a lightly armoured vehicle used by the T'au in a range of capacities, including rapid response, support of pathfinder teams and even as battlefield transport for high-ranking dignitaries. Tau Empire XV104 Riptide Battlesuit

XV104 Riptide is the pinnacle of the Earth caste's battlesuit development. It stands twice as tall as the XV8 Crisis suit, but its movements are more like those of its smaller cousins than the mechanical stiffness displayed by Imperial walkers with their crude servo-motors.
The XV104 Riptide takes the evolution of the T'au battlesuit to a whole new level. First and foremost the model is huge, towering over the rest of the T'au äóñ even other battlesuits and tanks. Sleek and elegant armour panels, along with bolts and grills, cover its body. Despite its enormous size, with ball and socket joints it remains a manoeuvrable model whose arms and legs can be posed in a variety of different ways. Either standing tall or even kneeling down, you can use it as a unique, dynamic centrepiece for your T'au army. The Razorshark Strike Fighter is a sleek atmospheric aircraft that is capable of sweeping down from the skies and blasting ground targets with its potent payload. Built along a design pattern modified from this aircraft, the Razorshark Strike Fighter forgoes an Interceptor Drone in favour of additional manoeuvring thrusters, and it trades the pulse bomb generator for a fearsome quad ion turret.
The Razorshark Strike Fighter kit shows the elegant design of the T'au in all its glory. Its front wingtips are tilted downwards, as are its stabilisers, and these are connected in a way that frames a quad ion turret. Details include Air caste insignia sculpted onto the top of the model, and an array of metal panels, grills and two engines positioned either side of the nose. There are also additional detail such as lights and an aerial. Rules
The Core Rules explain everything you need to play to play Warhammer 40,000. Moving, shooting, using psychic powers, charging, fighting and morale tests are covered, giving you the basic framework to play with. You can play a game using only these 8 pages, bolting on more advanced and complex rules when you and your opponent are ready.
Three Ways to Play
- Open Play äóñ pick some models, put them on the table and begin a game. This is the most flexible approach, designed with near-limitless possibilities; all you need is some models, their datasheets and the core rules. Included are some themes and ideas you can use or build upon to add atmosphere to your games, and 3 example missions.
- Narrative Play äóñ Warhammer 40,000 has a vast, rich history with countless epic battles. Narrative Play is designed to let you and your friends re-enact those battles at your leisure. There are special rules to help you do this, such as Concealed Deployment and unpredictable, random battle lengths, and the book includes several missions - 6 Crucible of War missions and 1 Echoes of War mission, each showing you how to play in this style.
- Matched Play äóñ for many players, Warhammer 40,000 is an opportunity to prove their mettle with tactics and strategy, an exercise in out-thinking and out-gunning their opponent with balanced, equal armies: Matched Play is for them. There are several ways to ensure that your forces are balanced against each other äóñ a points limit is the typical way, but the system is flexible enough to allow armies based on unit numbers, Power Ratings, Wounds; as long as your limits are agreed, the possibilities are manifold. This book provides details on choosing your armies, and provides missions as examples of the tactical challenges available: 6 Eternal War and 6 Maelstrom of War missions, with explanations covering the use of Tactical Objectives.
Advanced Rules
While the Core Rules provide with you with everything needed to play, the Advanced Rules are a selection of rules and expansions that can be used to play with your miniatures the way that you want to. - Cities of Death: street fighting in the ruins of a shattered city, with buildings bitterly fought over äóñ the claustrophobia of urban warfare makes for tense battles with snipers and grenades coming to the fore. Includes a Firesweep mission for playing out room-to-room combat;
- Stronghold Assault: dig in for a game of fortified siege warfare. One player seeks to overwhelm the prepared defences of another, with a Bunker Assault mission included;
- Death From the Skies: dogfighting for your Flyer models, allowing the recreation of epic clashes above the battlefield. A Tactical Strike mission involves a defence against a bombing run;
- Multiplayer Battles: rules accommodating three (or more!) players, with an example of a multiplayer battle to work from;
